Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Much of my practice has centered around understanding the unique complexities surrounding identity development and interpersonal relationships. I work with a wide range of presenting issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, grief, and trauma. I specialize in relationship distress, life transitions, communication challenges, sexuality and gender related issues, and consensual non-monogamy/polyamory. I believe that transformative therapy begins with a collaborative and trusting therapeutic partnership, one that highlights the unique knowledge, strengths, and skill sets of each client entering the room. Through trauma-informed practice, I aim to facilitate a safe and affirming therapeutic space. I recognize the ways in which institutions, systems, and intersectional identities impact individual experiences and overall wellbeing. My integrated approach to psychotherapy is based upon person-centered, existential, and attachment-based perspectives. I am passionate about exploring the ways in which attachment and trauma impact how an individual’s identity is formed.

Sometimes words don’t fully capture our experiences or do them justice. My journey into this work began with the discovery that art, music, movement, and other forms of creative expression can communicate the parts of ourselves that language alone cannot reach. These expressions are deeply human and can become powerful pathways to insight, healing, and connection. Therapy asks for honesty, vulnerability, and commitment, but it does not have to focus only on pain. My approach balances depth and growth with humor, curiosity, and discovery. Art therapy is not about being “good” at art; it is about using creativity and reflection to gain insight, process experiences, and foster new perspectives and possibilities. Together, we will explore patterns, relationships, challenges, and goals while strengthening resilience, quieting self-critical thoughts, and developing practical tools for navigating life’s challenges. Our work creates the foundation for deeper self-understanding, greater balance, and lasting growth.
Hello! My name is Jessica and I am a psychotherapist here to help you learn more about yourself and live a more fulfilling life. I work primarily with young adults, adults, however, I also have experience with children and teenagers. I specialize in anxiety and depression, as well as trauma. My approach to therapy is helping my clients learn more about themselves and empowering them to make changes that will meet their needs. My clients can expect to feel more self-aware and at peace with themselves. They can also expect to have a greater understanding of their emotions and triggers.
My focus as a mental health counselor centers around uncovering or recovering your worth, wisdom, and creativity because it can get obscured by how brains and bodies sometimes operate. My role is similar to being a co-pilot: you're the one driving, and I'm here to help you find the best way to go. That path is personal and unique for everyone, but an ideal outcome for the people I work with is to grow toward dreams, get more out of life, and feel more comfortable being yourself.

I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, eating disorders, OCD, relationship struggles, and academic stress. I am attuned to the role oppression plays in my patients' lives and am LGBTQIA+ affirming. I enjoy working with students, artists and people with creative practices, those undergoing life transitions, and people seeking to understand intergenerational sources of suffering. My style is warm and nonjudgmental. I am guided by the belief that each person contains inherent strengths and knowledge, and that a primary goal of treatment is to allow for the expression of this unique experience. In our work together, we will move between past and present to understand what it’s like to be you. We will look carefully at your struggles, as well as how you love and dream. This diligent attention to your experience can result in satisfying and often surprising changes in personal, creative, and professional endeavors. In time, this knowledge of the self may also reduce symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and physical pain. I am a New York State licensed master social worker and graduated with honors from Silberman School of Social Work. I am a candidate in adult psychoanalysis at the Contemporary Freudian Society. I have also been trained in the treatment of eating disorders. I have worked with people of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexuality, and class backgrounds. Therapy is a collaboration between therapist and client. My goal is to understand where you are at this moment in your life, help you to identify your goals and work with you, as a partner, to attain them. My approach to individual therapy is short term and goal oriented. I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to address a wide range of problems (see problems treated below). These skills based approaches allow individuals to change unhelpful thinking and behaviors, improve awareness of, and control over emotions, increase tolerance of difficult emotions, and enhance ability to live mindfully in the present moment. Throughout treatment we will monitor your progress and make any necessary changes to help you continue moving towards your goals. Therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes weekly, though this may vary based on the type of treatment. Therapy can be brief (12-16 sessions) or may last longer depending on your presenting problems and goals.

I help adults get back to living their lives – no matter what thoughts and feelings might be hanging around. Does it feel like lately your thoughts, emotions, urges, and impulses are running the show? Do they jerk you around, become the boss, and pull you away from the life you want to live? Do you spend so much time trying to manage your anxiety, or your insomnia, or protect yourself from pain that your life has shrunk? Whether it’s racing thoughts that keep you up all night, or dread that keeps you away from your old hobbies and good friends, or a diagnosis you were handed with little to no support – I’m here for you. Let’s get YOU and your deepest values running the show again – so that you can build a satisfying and vibrant life. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and focus primarily on health psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and biofeedback. This means that I have in-depth knowledge about how the mind and body influence each other and how to move towards a healthier, calmer baseline in your day-to-day life. I use a variety of skills to help reduce the power of exhausting thoughts and feelings, improve your ability to relax, figure out what matters most to you, and learn to relate to pain, worry, sleeplessness, and other struggles in new ways. A large part of treatment includes education about pain, anxiety, the nervous system, and mindfulness - all of which can have a positive impact on mental health and well-being. As a neuroscience geek, I can get really excited about new research and I love to share this with my patients. On a more personal note: I have been where you are right now. You are not alone.
As a mental health professional with 26 years of experience, I am dedicated to helping children, adults, and geriatric populations navigate anxiety, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and grief and loss. My approach is built upon the pillars of warmth, compassion, and evidence-based therapies, as I am passionate about the power of human connection and resilience. Let’s work together to discover your strengths and develop practical coping skills. I believe in creating a collaborative, open, and affirming environment that is tailored to your unique strengths and abilities. Your healing journey may include Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, art therapy (younger patients), and more approaches to help you manage self-doubt and develop healthy coping skills. At all times, I practice person-centered therapy, respecting your self-determination and honoring confidentiality, which helps me promote your best interest and develop a life worth living. I look forward to exploring your personal journey and experience in our work together. My path to becoming a therapist began as a mental health screener for the World Trade Center employees and volunteers who worked at ground zero after 9/11, who faced indescribable tragedy and environmental exposure to an unprecedented event in our nation's history. This experience shaped who I am and the compassionate, patient-focused therapist I strive to be, one that enables me to bring a comprehensive understanding of loss and grief to my practice now. When I’m not in the office, I enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, from hiking the trails to gardening at home. I also love music and volunteering in my community to strengthen connections.
