As a licensed psychologist, I specialize in delivering empathic, client-centered mental health care for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, and trauma. As a member of both the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, I bring a unique lived perspective to my work and am deeply committed to providing culturally sensitive, affirming, and evidence-based care that is tailored to your individual needs and goals. I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches in my work, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma. I also integrate cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavior strategies to help individuals build effective coping skills, manage distress, and navigate life’s challenges more confidently. Maybe chronic stress, anxiety, or trauma has your nervous system stuck on high alert, so that even when life is relatively stable, you don't actually feel that way. Maybe your past experiences show up now as hypervigilance, tension, irritability, insomnia, or shutting down. Maybe you're managing burnout, depression, relationship struggles, or patterns you just can't seem to shake. Maybe you're tired of merely surviving and ready to actually feel different. With a background in social justice, many of my clients are queer, activists, neurodivergent, and others for whom identity/politics/systemic context are part of their story. We start by helping your body feel safer through various approaches such as biofeedback, breathwork/meditation, or the Safe and Sound Protocol so your nervous system doesn’t have to work so hard. From there, we look deeper at the patterns, relationships, and stories that shaped how you move through the world. We explore what matters to you at your own pace. Our work together isn't about fixing what's "wrong" with you. It's about understanding what has happened to you, how you've adapted, and finding out what is possible when we have more awareness and more options. My approach is a deeply relational one. You're the expert on your own life and I'm here to serve as a supporter and collaborator in the process.
My practice is here to support those who need someone to talk, by being someone who will listen and can offer some help. It is a safe place to process and discuss your challenges, and to learn more about taking care of your mental health. Most often I am helping clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and just the difficulty of adjusting to life's stressors. Adjusting to the college experience, and the transition from college to the real world can be tough. I have found that clients have done well through these times when supported with process, education, skill building, and reflection. If you are interested please reach out. I offer free 15 minute consultations for all new clients who are interested. Currently I am accepting Self Pay, Highmark Plans, Blue Cross plans, Aetna, and Optum.

I believe in the inherent worth of everyone and that people genuinely do the best they can. We all experience joys and sorrows that can impact our daily functioning. Sometimes these experiences can make us feel "stuck," but we have the power to choose how we respond. Since learning never ends, we will discuss improving your self-awareness and build your "tool box" with strategies to empower you in everyday life. A caring atmosphere will be provided to help you discover your strengths, show yourself compassion, and to find balance in your life. I work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, abilities, and ages. Together, we'll build a tool box, so that you're better able to deal with situations that may cause discomfort. An eclectic and solution-focused approach to counseling is used. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness approaches are used as well. As we work together, we'll discuss ways to help improve your quality of life. I enjoy helping adults dealing with mental health changes, students with disabilities, individuals struggling with transitional issues (e.g. new diagnoses, elderly parents, veganism), career counseling, grief, pet loss, and how nutrition impacts mental health. If you are interested in learning what openings are available, please call 412-354-0636 Thank you, Megan
College can be rewarding, but it can also feel overwhelming. Whether you're adjusting to campus life, feeling stressed or burned out, struggling with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, eating concerns, dissociation, low self-worth, or simply feeling stuck, you don't have to navigate it alone. At Sacred Forest Counseling, I strive to provide an unconditionally accepting space where you can show up exactly as you are. My approach is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. Together, we'll explore the challenges you're facing, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and work toward meaningful, lasting change at a pace that feels right for you. I also offer a unique nature-informed approach to counseling for students who find healing and clarity through connecting with nature. From my experience and current research from the EcoPsychology field, it can be said that healing often happens when we slow down, reconnect with ourselves, and draw wisdom from the natural world. Whether we meet outdoors or virtually, therapy is always tailored to your individual needs and goals. I have experience working with undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students and understand the unique pressures that can come with balancing academics, relationships, work, and personal well-being. If you're wondering whether we'd be a good fit, I'd love to connect. Reach out today to see if Sacred Forest Counseling is the right place to support your journey.
