College can be exciting—but it can also feel overwhelming and uncertain at times. I often work with students who feel weighed down by the pressures of school, relationships, and figuring out their next steps in life. Many of my clients want to feel more confident and at ease but find themselves stuck in stress or self-doubt. I offer a welcoming space where you can talk openly, sort through challenges, and learn practical ways to feel more grounded and connected in your daily life. I look forward to meeting you!

I help people overcome their personal psychological barriers so they can live a more meaningful, authentic life. I provide compassionate, holistic care to all of my clients, supporting them through challenges in relationships, major life transitions, grief and loss, acculturation difficulties, and uncertainty about their path forward in life. I have particular expertise in helping young adults, including college students and those who recently graduated. I worked for several years in college counseling centers and have built on this specialization in private practice, developing a deep understanding of the challenges and uncertainties inherent in this phase of life and how to guide patients through them. I also have considerable experience with those struggling with traumatic or abusive relationships—whether during childhood or as an adult—as well as other forms of trauma. I’m also extremely effective with clients who—short of trauma per se— had or are currently experiencing difficult relationships with parents or other family members. In addition, I have substantial background in helping people who identify as LGBTQ+. That includes people who are just beginning to think about themselves outside of a hetero-normative framework as well as people who started that process earlier in life. Though I have specific expertise in these areas, I welcome all patients. I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University, and have a breadth of experience in many settings ranging from college counseling centers to inpatient hospital units. This equips me to help patients from diverse backgrounds, life experiences and identities who may struggle with a wide range of emotional concerns. I currently work at The Flatiron Center for Psychotherapy, where I tailor my person-centered, humanistic, trauma-informed approach to craft the most effective treatment for each client.

My practice centers on creating a safe and nurturing space for you to explore what is going on with you; your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, desires, strengths, and challenges. We will work collaboratively to move away from feelings like shame and guilt to make space for self-compassion, acceptance and growth. Together we will explore underlying challenges or barriers to reaching your hopes and goals and work through any blockages that come along the way. If you are new to therapy, you are welcome here! It can be an intimidating process to seek help - I hope to be a guide and support on your journey. I approach my sessions with a dynamic and interpersonal lens as we work together to explore your internal and external landscapes. Together, we will identify any barriers or unhelpful patterns of thoughts and behaviors, and then identify strategies and tools to help you disrupt unhealthy cycles. I believe in the power of authentic human connection and I employ a warm, direct, humanistic and solution-focused approach with clients. Hi All! My name is Cari and not so long ago I was a college student..... or at least it feels that way. Looking back I can say I learned a lot in the classroom but more importantly I learned about myself. Mental Health is a issues that has always been swept under the rug. The most significant onset for mental health issues are 18 and onward. This places many college student in a place where they may feel isolated, alone and have no idea what is" wrong" with them. My practice not only focuses on mental health issues but also on substance use, the "hook up" culture, adjustment to college life and many more pertinent struggles young people face today . I did not just gain my experience as a therapist listening to a client on a couch. Much of my work was community based , in very high need neighborhoods in the NYC area. From working in homeless shelters, foster care, and substance use programs, the experience gained was invaluable . I offer more then just a set of listening empathetic ears but an approach to help you rationalize your thoughts and experiences .
