Because I also consult to schools and colleges, I am very effective at helping students and families navigate educational institutions.

College is a stressful time full of academic demands and social obligations, and everyone needs a space where they can focus on themselves. We don’t like uncertainty. It is tempting to grasp for the certainty of “everything is doomed” or “everything will be ok.” But a part of us remains unconvinced. It is hard to face the truth: I don’t know what is coming, only that my experience will keep changing and eventually end. There are many aspects of our experience that are hard to face. We aren’t meant to do this alone. I partner with my clients to walk together into this wilderness. I offer a kind, curious, nonjudgmental attention, with the intent of helping my clients to sort through thoughts, judgements, reactions, behaviors, and felt experience, so they can learn to care more skillfully for the parts of their experience that are outside of their control and to take decisive action in the areas of their life where they have agency. Over time, this relational practice builds solidity. It loosens the tight grip on “everything is doomed” or “everything will be ok,” and opens up “it will keep changing, and eventually end, and I trust in my capacity to feel and care for my experience, no matter what comes.”

Dr. Adam Henderson is a board certified psychiatrist. He specializes in providing psychotherapy and medication management. He is on faculty at Harvard Medical School and works as a staff psychiatrist at McLean Hospital. He specializes in doing deep work with clients to help them understand themselves and recover from addiction issues, borderline personality, trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar and more. Adam works with clients new to therapy as well as clients who have tried numerous therapies and/or medications and haven't gotten the results they wanted. Adam has advanced training in Motivational Interviewing (MI) to treat clients with addictions and substance abuse and Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT) to treat Borderline Personality. He also offers Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). Adam's goal is to get you better so that you can "become your own therapist" and no longer need therapy.
